I finally forced myself to finish my pictures from our vacation. It was so overwhelming going through the 600 or so photos I took. Sometimes I miss the restrictions of film cameras. I need to remind myself that just because I can fit hundreds of photos on one digital card, it doesn’t mean I have to. Anyway, we had a great vacation and I could see us visiting Florida every year. Especially with the new non-stop flights JetBlue offers us. I can get roundtrip airfare for $200, whereas it’s about $160 to the Los Angeles area. Florida offers nicer hotels for cheaper prices and warm beach water so it’s a winner to me.

Yosemite |

Peter and I took a quick trip to Yosemite earlier this week. Peter is off school all week for Thanksgiving so I thought it might be a good time to go. It’s about a 3 1/2 hrs drive - 2 hrs of which are windy roads into the mountains. Thanks goodness for the car DVD player!
We stayed one night at a hotel inside the park. We had a nice time walking around and viewing the waterfall and mountains. Although walking isn’t quite the right term - walking with Peter is like walking a chihuahua. He stops every 5 seconds, usually for no reason. It drove me nuts. Peter had the most fun climbing on all the big rocks.
I definitely want to go back again soon (when it’s warmer). Next time we’ll take Mike since he’s never been and so he can help Peter climb all the really huge rocks near the waterfall.

It’s been a lot harder than I ever imagined. Nala was my best bud. She was my lap dog. She even slept under the covers with us every night. It’s usually perceived that dogs take care of their owners but we took care of Nala. We protected her from the harassment of the cats and Peter. We bought our house with her in mind. We wanted her to have her own backyard. Our little family feels broken but I know life goes on. My tears may stop but my love for her will never fade.

Peter lost his last great grandparent today. His #1 fan, Monte, passed earlier today. Up until about 2 weeks ago, she would call every other day to talk to him. They would sometimes have very intense conversations about cars. Here is a little slideshow I put together:

Even though she is gone, I’ll always have my memories. Some of the fondest ones:
- She gave me my nickname Norbit
- She spoiled me rotten and even endured long lines and fist fights to get me Cabbage Patch dolls
- At 12+, she would take me to tour model homes (for fun). We continued to do this through my teen years. Since then it’s become one of my obsessions
- At 15, she picked me up after my first day at my first job, and took me to dinner
- 1 1/2 yrs ago, she flew to California (from MD) to see my first home at the age of 83
I’ll miss her dearly, especially how she was always there to support me throughout my life. I found this still on my answering machine from a few weeks ago. I think I’ll leave it there for awhile:
